General Student characteristics:
  • Have been exposed to English for about 2-3 years
  • Richer vocabulary
  • Can summarize events and main ideas
  • Use language to apply higher order thinking skills
  • Make comparisons to stories or prior experiences
  • Use illustrations for context clues
  • Writing appears fluent, but mainly composed of high frequency words
  • It takes up to 2-3 years to advance to the next level

Listening:

  • Recall story events in sequential order
  • Asks questions

Speaking:
  • Retells events with descriptive vocabulary
  • Orally provides details
  • Makes comparisons

Reading:

  • Summarizes narrative stories

Writing:
  • Writes simple sentences
  • Incorporates many high frequency words
